Champlain College Student Artists Honored at 2017 Juried Art Show
A variety of mediums represented in second annual Show at Champlain Art Gallery
Burlington, VT (04/06/2017) — Students, faculty and staff alike gathered on Wednesday, April 5, to celebrate the winners of the second annual campus-wide juried student art exhibition at the Champlain Art Gallery.The show opened March 30 and featured 34 student artists selected by a jury made of faculty and industry professionals.These works were in a variety of mediums, which included video, 3D modeling, graphic design, digital painting, photography, illustration, and painting.
Champlain College President Donald J. Laackman and Communications and Creative Media Division Dean Paula Willoquet-Maricondi both spoke about the role the arts plays in a Champlain College education and announced their individual choices for best piece in the show.
The winners are as follows:
- President's Choice- Jenna Henry "A Busy Mind"
- Dean's Choice- MacKenzie Brandon "Scenes Of A Mud Puddle"
- Jury Selection - First Place- Michael Andreula "Train Market"
- Jury Selection - Second Place- Scott "Zento" Slinger "2017 Ride- 2016 Otis Mountain Get Down" with Zach Wallbridge, Jack Whitney, and Dillan Hodak.
- Jury Selection - Third Place- Colton Orr "Lunar Suit"
The following winners were chosen by a popular vote:
- Audience Choice: Illustration/Painting- Ben Demars "Frida Kahlo in Construction Paper"
- Audience Choice: Graphic Design- Jenna Henry "A Busy Mind"
- Audience Choice: 3D Modeling/Sculpture- Colton Orr "Lunar Suit"
- Audience Choice: Video/Audio- Scott "Zento" Slinger "2017 Ride- 2016 Otis Mountain Get Down"
- Audience Choice: Photography- Thomas Rose "untitled"
The Student Juried Show runs through April 15 in the CCM Art Gallery on the second floor of the Center for Communication and Creative Media at Champlain College. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Closed Sundays, College Holidays and during exhibition installations. It is free and open to the public.
