Katarina Svenson Places Second In Champlain College Elevator Pitch Competition

Katarina Svenson of Lexington, MA has won second place in the Job/Internship Seekers category of Champlain College's Seventh Annual Elevator Pitch competition.

In February Svenson, a Psychology major at Champlain College in Burlington, VT competed with 56 other students to pitch an original and creative idea to Burlington area business people who would then decide on a first, second, and third place winner in three different categories. The categories were non-profit/ social advocacy, job/internship seekers, and entrepreneurs.

Students like Svenson were able to learn a valuable life skill by participating in the competition to present a clear and concise business idea to the judges in 90 seconds or less. The students were judged on their content and delivery by a panel of local business people, and the winners of each category were awarded $500. Second and third-place prizes of $300 and $100 were also provided by KeyBank.

The Champlain College Elevator Pitch, sponsored by KeyBank, is a collaboration of BYOBiz program, Champlain Career Services, the Oral Communication Lab, the Center for Service & Civic Engagement, and the Office of Advancement. The event is patterned on a national competition and teaches students the importance of presenting a "big idea" as succinctly and convincingly as possible.
